The layout of the Estimates has been changed and staff has been allocated to the various branches. The post of Technical Secretary has been abolished but provision has been made for the engagement on a three-year contract of the following additional staff: 3 Town Planning Architects, 4 Architects, 3 Structural Engineers and 2 Quantity Surveyors.
This additional staff
is considered necessary
in order to complete the heavy rehabilitation programmo.
A new post of Mochanical Enginoor has also been provided for to take charge of Government Motor Transport for which the Public Works Department has now assumed responsibility. been dispensed with and there is a not decrease under Some temporary staff has Personal Emoluments of $69,123. is a decrease in Personal Emoluments of $3,991.

Head 28. Public Works Recurrent
An increase of $100,000 is provided for under Maintenance of Public Buildings and a decrease of $90,000 under Maintenance of non-Government Buildings. Alterations and additions to Government Buildings have been increased by $50,000 and alterations and additions to non-Government Buildings decreased by $100,000. Maintenance of Lighthouses has been reduced by $5,000. A now item Maintenance of Typhoon Masts and Equipment has been inserted at the request of the Director of the Royal Observatory. There is an increase of 8126,000 under Maintenance of Vehicular Ferry Piers but a good deal of this expenditure will be recovered from the Ferry Company.
